Word

1. In Word, open the document you wish to encrypt, then click Tools. From the Tools dropdown menu, select Protect Document.

2. From the Password Protect box, select from the options given to set various protections for the document. When you're finished making your selections, click OK.

If you don’t wish to give people access to change your document enter a password to modify the document but only share the password to open.

Excel

To password protect and/or encrypt a document using Microsoft Excel for Mac:

1. Open the MS Excel for Mac file you want to encrypt and password protect.

2. Select File > Passwords. The File Passwords window opens.

3. In the Password to open field, type a password. Passwords are case-sensitive. If you don’t wish to give people access to change your document enter a password to modify the document but only share the password to open.

4. Click OK. You are prompted to reenter the same password.

5. Reenter the same password.

6. Click OK. The file is now encrypted and requires this password to open it.

7. Don't forget to save this password in a secure password manager and securely communicate

this to any users or recipients of this file.

8. To reverse this, repeat the steps without entering a password. Save the document and it will

no longer require a password to open it.

PDF In Preview

1. In the Preview app on your Mac, open a PDF.

2. Choose File > Export.

If you want to create a password-protected copy and keep the original PDF unencrypted, enter a new name for the PDF.

3. Click the Permissions button, then do any of the following:

• Set a password for opening the PDF: Select Require Password To Open Document. Enter a password, then retype it to verify.

• Set permissions: Select the tickbox next to an action to allow printing or changes without the owner password. Leave the tickbox unselected to require the owner password.

4. Enter a password in the Owner Password section, then retype it to verify. It can be the same as or different from any password you created in step 3.

5. Click Apply, then click Save. Changes take effect the next time the PDF is opened.
