Modified on Thu, 3 Apr at 2:35 PM

To save storage space, you can compress a PDF in Preview.

Note: When compressed, the PDF may be of lower quality than the original. The resulting file size and image quality may vary depending on the options you select.

  1. Go to the Preview app on your Mac.

  2. Open the PDF you want to compress.

  3. Choose File > Export.

  4. Do one or more of the following:

    • Compress PDF graphics to presentation quality: Select the “Optimise images for screen” tickbox.

    • Convert all graphics to JPEG format: Select the “Save images as JPEG” tickbox.
